By Pat Huff for The Island Connection
Winter 2021 painting classes at the Patricia Reno Huff Gallery & Art Center at Freshfield Village will begin Jan. 12, Jan. 13 and Jan. 14 and will meet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on each day.
Tuesday’s class will be a beginning oil class, the focus Wednesday is beginning and finishing a painting and the Thursday class will cover topics to discover your own voice and style.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, all classes will be limited to four people.
For those to want to be more protected, a Zoom class is offered Tuesday and Wednesday. All classes are taught by Pat Huff and are held at the Gallery on the second floor located above Beija-Flor.
The objective of Tuesday’s class is to introduce students to the process of creating an oil painting: from drawing basics, value studies, composition, color mixing, oil application and finally finishing a painting. Still life and reference photos will be used. Wednesday’s advanced oil painting class will focus on three topics: doing thumbnails and studies; using different block-in methods; and finishing a painting and making it express your vision.
Finding your own style of artistic expression is the focus of Thursday’s intermediate oil class.
Like your signature, expressing our own voice in your paintings should be unique and an expression of your own personality.
Where do you fall on the continuum of photo realism to impressionism to abstract painting? Taking a personality indicator will help you understand how you take in and process information.
This self-discovery helps you understand how certain painting practices suit your personality. This class is both fun and illuminating.
