The St. Johns Parish Rotary Club provided a Christmas luncheon and gifts to 80 plus senior citizens, with the support and help of the Our Lady of Mercy Outreach Center. This is the thirteenth year that the St. Johns Parish Rotary has provided a full Christmas luncheon dinner and gifts to these appreciative residents. The terrific food was prepared by Reginald Simmons and his staff at Professional Catering. Our very special thanks go to Newton Farms for donating the turkeys for the feast. The Rotary Club hosted seniors from the Live Oak Nursing Home, Hebron Zion Presbyterian Church and the Our Lady of Mercy Quilters. Club President Magurisio Esparza stated that this special event is looked forward to more than any of the Rotary Club’s other service projects.
This fall, the St. Johns Parish Rotary Club gave personal dictionaries to all third grade students attending rural elementary schools from Johns Island to Hollywood. The Club also provides college scholarships to deserving high school seniors at St. Johns and Baptist Hills High Schools, and works closely with St. Johns High School students who are seeking to become community leaders as part of the Interact Club. The students are actively involved in community outreach programs, including Breast Cancer Awareness, coat drives and feeding the needy. The Interact Club recently received a $2500 grant from Palmetto Pride for a beautification project.
The St. Johns Rotary Club meets for breakfast ever Wednesday at 7:30am at Berkeley Electric Cooperative on Maybank Highway, Johns Island. Please come , visit, enjoy the fellowship and Rotary spirit and get involved!
