Ristow Leaving Fire District

Provided by St. Johns Fire Department

Chief Karl Ristow

Chief Karl Ristow, Fire Chief with the St John’s Fire District has announced he is leaving the department. Chief Ristow has been with the department since 1998 and has been instrumental in modernizing the organization, improving operational response, implementing a professional development matrix for the department, achieved automatic aid with neighboring departments, and consolidating the 911 system in Charleston County. Chief Ristow has also taken a proactive position on fire prevention and public fire education. He has routinely budgeted specifically for residential smoke alarms and has provided guidance with obtaining grant opportunities that directly support fire and life safety initiatives, such as residential home addressing. Additionally, he has served on many state and local committees working side by side with other emergency disciplines to increase awareness, prevention, and service to the customer. Chief Ristow will be working with the St John’s Fire District Commission in finding his replacement as it is anticipated they will conduct a nationwide search. It is hoped that this will be accomplished within the next 60-120 days.
