Staff Report for The Island Connection
Runners will race across the sands of Isle of Palms Sept. 21 at the annual Turtle Trek 5K, an event that raises funds for conservation initiatives including the South Carolina Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Care Center.
“Turtle Trek is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Aquarium Strategic Partnership Officer Stephanie Gabosch. It has sold out every year, and we expect that it will sell out well ahead of the actual event again this year.”
Festivities get underway with a beach sweep, followed by a Kids Fun Run. The main event starts at 6 p.m. Later, runners and supporters will gather for an afterparty at The Windjammer for food, prizes and live music by Moxie.
Runners will receive a T-shirt and an after-race meal provided by Swig and Swine. This year’s race is presented by Crews Subaru of Charleston and Publix Super Markets.
