Bohicket Marina will be “the” place to be on Saturday, Mar. 17, Saint Patrick’s Day, for the 4th annual Backpack Buddies Bash Chili Cook off. From 1-4 p.m., this year’s event promises to be the biggest and best one yet. Hosting the event, once again, are Todd Gerhart and Kathy Gorton, of The Ice Cream Boat and Bohicket Ship Store. This incredible fundraiser features 35 local entrants, with a wide variety of chili. In the past, entries included alligator, chicken, beef, and vegetarian. Who knows what’s in store for this time. For the entry fee of $10, guests can try all the different chilis and enjoy live music. Wine and beer will be available for purchase. Tickets can be pre-purchased at The Ice Cream Boat at Bohicket Marina, through Kiawah Women’s Foundation 843.768.9576, or directly from Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island at 203.417.8518. Tickets will also be available the day of the event. Proceeds benefit Backpack Buddies, Kiawah and Seabrook programs, two local 501(c)(3), nonprofits whose mission is to feed local, hungry, school children on the weekends and during school holidays, when school subsidized meals are not provided. Currently, between the 2 organizations, close to 400 children are fed every weekend.
