Communities In Schools of the Charleston Area, Inc. (CIS) is pleased to announce its inaugural event The Charleston Yacht Affair, scheduled for Sunday, May 17, 2010, from 6 to 9 p.m., at The City Marina, 17 Lockwood Drive. The Charleston Yacht Affair will feature exclusive yacht tours, delicious cuisine prepared by Charleston’s top chefs, live entertainment and a silent auction. All proceeds from the event will benefit Communities In Schools dropout prevention programs and services.
“Communities In Schools is pleased to bring this exciting new event to Charleston to help support our drop-out prevention programs,” said Executive Director Jane Riley. “We are thrilled with the support and enthusiasm we have received from our generous sponsors and talented volunteers, and we certainly could not have done this without them.”
Yachts scheduled for viewing include the historic 90-foot “Innisfail”, Mermaid Voyage’s “Blue Moon”, “Big Wave”, “Frolic”, “Gitana”, “Sea’s the Day” and a 75-foot sport cruiser from Viking. Delicious cuisine will be served by top chefs from some of Charleston’s favorite restaurants, including Bambu, The Cajun Kitchen, Cupcake, Fish Restaurant, The Fat Hen, personal chef Tina McCard, Virginia’s, The Wild Olive and Winship Productions.
By championing the connection of needed community resources with schools, Communities In Schools helps young people successfully learn, stay in school, and prepare for life. In its 20 years of operation, CIS has helped students improve attendance, behavior, grades, and make better choices to support their academic goals. In fact, of the students who are old enough to drop out of school on their own, 100 percent chose to remain in school due to the services they received from a CIS Student Support Specialist.
Tickets for The Charleston Yacht Affair are $75 per person or $140 per couple. To purchase tickets, please call the CIS office at 740-6793 during business hours Monday through Friday. Tickets will also be available at the event. For more information, visit www.charlestonyachtaffair.org
