Next Steps Johns Island has just completed a senior life skills class at John’s Island High School.
Next Steps volunteers, working with school counselors, assembled a diverse group of community leaders to instruct high school seniors in developing life skills they can carry with them after graduation.
The students received books outlining “How to Adult” with information on collecting the various documents they will need going forward as well as instructions on how to open a checking account, set up a budget, successfully manage their money and plan for emergencies, as well as a list of resources to contact in the event they need help.
The following programs will be scheduled in the Spring (dates to be determined):
Crock-Pot Cooking Classes.
Participants who complete the class will receive, a crock-pot, recipes, measuring spoons and spices.
Legal Clinics on free wills, powers of attorney and advanced directives.
Presentation on housing laws and landlords.
Financial Fair with an emphasis on money management.
Participants in the Financial Fair will receive a calculator, one-on-one counseling and a workbook.
