KDP permit denied
provided by the Friends of the Kiawah River
The DHEC Board has denied Kiawah Development Partners (KDP) a permit to construct a metal sheet pile wall on the narrow portion of Captain Sam’s Spit. At a Board review on Thursday, December 10, 2009, in Columbia, the Board reversed their staff decision.
The review was the result of requests by Friends of the Kiawah River and SCELP. At the hearing, the proposal was supported by DHEC staff, Leonard Long (KDP) and their attorney Trenholm Walker.
Congratulations to the team of Amy Armstrong (SCELP), Nancy Vinson (CCL) and Sidi Limehouse (FKR), who together were so convincing that the Board stopped proceedings and went into private session. When the hearing reconvened, there was a unanimous vote to deny the application.
