St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center on Seabrook Island has many activities to offer you and your family this summer. St. Christopher is a true paradise with nearly a mile of pristine beach and over 300 acres of undisturbed salt marsh and maritime forest. Owned and operated by the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina, St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center hosts thousands of guests each year through various ministries. From the children who come to play and lean at the summer camp and Barrier Island Environmental Education Program to the adults, families, and groups who come for meetings, conferences or just to relax at the Conference Center, all experience the beauty and tranquility found at St. Christopher.
St. Christopher’s newest ministry Outdoor Encounters would especially like to welcome both residents and guests of Seabrook and Kiawah Islands and the rest of the surrounding community to join them on one of their many adventures. Led by St. Christopher’s resident naturalists, Outdoor Encounters offers groups a variety of different day and overnight activities. Spend the day kayaking across the North Edisto River and exploring the beach of the beautiful undeveloped Botany Island or walking down to the mysterious bone yard beach found on Botany Bay Plantation Wildlife Management Area. Go on a leisurely paddle through the surrounding salt marshes and see dolphins surface for air literally feet from your kayak while shore birds forage for food on the edge of the creeks.
While you are able to schedule morning, afternoon, and evening kayak trips daily, Outdoor Encounters will be offering sunset kayak trips every Tuesday evening, June through the end of September, for a reduced rate. This is truly an amazing experience as you will spend two hours paddling through St. Christopher’s pristine salt marsh and along it’s beautiful beach all while catching the best sunset in the lowcountry from your kayak.
Other activities include a guided nature hike down one of the camp’s many trails, seining with a 30 foot net in the estuary, team building exercises on a low ropes course, and a 25 foot climbing wall, just to name a few. For those feeling particularly adventurous, Outdoor Encounters also offers 2 day/1 night or 3 day/2 night overnight wilderness kayaking and camping trips for groups and families. No matter what trip or adventure you choose, Outdoor Encounters at St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center has something to offer everyone.
