Old Glory Flies at Freshfields

By Sam Reed

A new American flag has been raised at Freshfields Village.

A new flagpole and a recently raised American flag were dedicated at the Freshfields Village roundabout this past Wednesday, May 23. Russ Crane served as emcee and the St. Johns High School color guard presented the colors. The Island Choraliers men’s chorus provided the National Anthem and other patriotic songs.

The pole and its installation were funded by the Town of Seabrook Island, the Kiawah Island Community Association, the Seabrook Island Property Owners Association, the Kiawah-Seabrook Exchange Club, Freshfields Village, and the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The Town of Kiawah Island has agreed to maintain the pole and flags, and will provide electricity for lighting.

The mayors of both towns, the executives of both associations, and representatives from the other contributors were recognized at the 3:30 p.m. pre-Memorial Day ceremony.
