Bees Ferry Road Reduces Speed Limit to 35 mph

Provided

Drivers should be aware that the speed limit has been reduced on Bees Ferry Road to 35 mph due to ongoing construction to widen the road.

The reduced speed limit applies to the entire corridor of Bees Ferry Road, from the intersection of Savannah Highway (U.S. 17) to the intersection of Ashley River Road (S.C. 61).

Message boards alerting the public of the new change will remain in place until Friday, March 16. However, the reduced speed limit is in effect for the entire duration of the project, which is expected to be completed in April of 2014.

Once the project is completed, the entire road will have a speed limit of 45 mph.

Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times. The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions in speed limit and message board information, and to note that all road work is dependent on the weather.

The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed April 2014, is to make improvements to the entire 4.5 mile length of Bees Ferry Road from Savannah Highway (U.S. 17) to Ashley River Road (S.C. 61). The project was requested by the City of Charleston and was funded by the Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax Program. Partial funding for the project was approved by voters in the second Transportation Sales Tax bond referendum.
